Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a safeguarding policy if we only work with adults?

Yes. While the most stringent safeguarding requirements apply to organisations working with children and young people, all organisations have a duty of care to vulnerable adults. We recommend all performing arts organisations have a safeguarding policy in place regardless of the age of their participants.

Are ticket sales VAT-exempt for arts organisations?

It depends. Certain cultural organisations can qualify for VAT exemption on admission charges, but the criteria are specific and the application is not automatic. We can assess your organisation's eligibility and advise on the correct VAT treatment.

Do we need a PRS licence if we only play music during warm-up?

Yes. Any public performance of copyright music (including background or warm-up music) requires a PRS for Music licence. The same applies to recorded music played in public spaces, which requires a PPL licence in addition to PRS.

What HR documents does a small dance school need?

At minimum: written contracts for all staff (including part-time and sessional teachers), a disciplinary and grievance procedure, a health and safety policy, and a privacy notice. We can review your existing documents or help you put the right framework in place from scratch.
